I’m Nicole – I’m the resident writer and photographer of this fine blog. My husband is James – he’s our trail researcher and chauffeur. We have 3 homeschooled kids – Aidan (13), Audra (11), and Austin (10). And when I tell you that we’re a homeschooling family, go ahead and throw out all of your assumptions of what that looks like. Because we are over here busting every mold.
After doing the active duty military thing for nearly 9 years, James decided to go the civilian route and we moved home to Indiana. His military time had taken us to Connecticut, Georgia, Florida and Maryland. When we moved back to Indiana, we thought we were done moving. Forever. But ya know…the best laid plans and all.
We spent 4.5 years living in Indiana, but the last year James was in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor. Once he completed his time there, his company offered him a job in Hawai’i. Hawai’i?! What!? This girl had never been west of Arkansas, so I was in for a treat. We moved to beautiful O’ahu and we were lucky enough to live there for two years. It awoken an adventurous spirit within us that I didn’t even know could possibly exist. We took that sense of adventure and made the most of those 24 months. And once our time was up in that tropical wonderland, we made our way to gorgeous Denver, Colorado in October 2015.
We’ve seen and done so many things here in the past 18 months, but I got a bit behind on posting. I’m working on catching up so keep checking back for new articles! They are being posted as if I wrote them in real time, so don’t get confused if a “new” post goes up indicating it was written a year ago. I know it’s weird, but it’ll all make more sense once it’s finished. The best way to stay on top of it is to subscribe to our email updates. (Look to your right!)
After a few years of hiking and exploring, we’ve learned so much. But every new location brings new dangers and things to consider, so life continues to keep us on our toes. (We traded in scary ridge trails for aggressive wildlife!) Each adventure is a learning experience and we are happy to figure it out as we go. This blog is dedicated to sharing our love of wandering. We hope you enjoy the ride!
